Here, you can develop and scan any color negative film — 35mm, 110, or 120.

If you’ve got large format 4×5 sheets, head to this page instead.

If you have motion picture film — choose ECN-2 developing. It has a remjet layer and needs special processing.

What can be developed with C41?

You can drop off any roll or disposable camera labeled C-41. We also accept:

  • Ilford XP2 Super 400
  • expired slide film (for cross-processing)

A quick note on both:

  • Ilford XP2 Super 400
it’s a black & white film, but since it’s chromogenic, it can be developed with the standard C-41 film processing — easier for us, more affordable for you. So it’s a win-win situation.
  • Expired slide film
color reversal film tends to lose dynamic range as it ages, but developing slide film with C-41 can give us more flexibility when scanning. Just know the colors might shift and the grain will be more visible.

At Film Speed Lab, we do color film developing that’s both fast and top quality.

With our standard turnaround, you can get your results back in just 1 day. No rush fee, just us living up to our name.

What is C-41 film developing?

C-41 is the standard chemical process used for developing color negative film — the most common type of color film.

How we do 35mm and 120 film processing:

We develop all color film using our trusty Konica KP46 — a reliable workhorse that helps us keep things fast and consistent.

What makes C41 film processing special

The C-41 process needs:

  • precise temperature control
  • accurate timing
  • constant agitation to distribute chemicals evenly

Our machine handles all of that, reducing human error and giving your film exactly what it needs.

Now, let’s break down the color film developing process and the chemicals used:

  • Developer
Makes your image visible by reacting with the light-exposed parts of the film.
  • Bleach
Removes anything left that didn’t turn into the image for clear, accurate colors.
  • Fixer
Makes the image on the negative permanent and safe to expose to light.
  • Stabilizer
Protects the film from mold and drying marks, helping scans stay clean and sharp.
  • Drying
The last step after which film is ready to scan.

Scanning

Once your film is developed, we scan it on the Noritsu HS-1800, known for speed, consistency, and its Digital ICE technology, which automatically removes dust and scratches.

It can scan your frames up to 4000×6000 px, offering two output formats:

  • JPG – ready-to-post
  • TIFF – flat scans, perfect for post-processing

Before sending, we always go over the scans manually: flipping frames, removing any visible marks, and adjusting exposure and color so you get results you’re genuinely happy with.

If you’re planning to edit the scans yourself, print them big, or use them in a project — go for the Biggie TIFF. It gives you the most detail and flexibility, without any adjustments from our side.

Now that you’re all set, here’s how to get your color film developed with us

  • drop off or mail us your film
  • we develop & scan it (super fast, as always)
  • check your inbox for the results
  • pick up your negatives or have them shipped to you

Scan links are active for 3 days. If you miss the deadline, just send us your order number and we’ll reupload the files.

We keep your negatives for 1 month. Need more time to pick them up? Just let us know and we’ll hold onto them a bit longer.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FLASH AND BIGGIE?

Think of it like this: if you’re going big — like for an exhibition or a gift — biggie’s your go-to

For everything else — flash. It’s fast, flexible and perfect for quick edits and everyday needs.

JPG OR TIFF?

If you’re looking for scans that are ready to post but still flexible for adjustments, go with JPG. We’ll make sure they look great, and you can tweak them however you like.

If you’re going for a certain look, go with TIFF for flat, untouched scans ready for your editing.

I DIDN’T QUITE LIKE THE RESULTS…

Then let’s improve them! Scanning is all about your personal style, so let’s tweak it until it’s just right for you.

WHAT IF I HAVE A BLANK ROLL OF FILM?

Oh, it’s the worst, we feel you.

We’ll refund the scan and just charge for the development. This also applies if your film is fogged or has damaged / transparent perforation.
