Kodak Portra 400 (135 type roll film, 36 Exposures)

Regular price

Kodak Portra 400 (also sold as Ektacolor Pro 400*) is the all-rounder of the Portra family. It has wide exposure latitude and handles overexposure well, holding detail up to about three stops over, though the image gets paler and shadows thin out. For the most natural color and skin tones, meter at box speed.

The palette is soft and pastel with a gentle warm undertone. Grain is finer than most color films, and skin tones come out natural and accurate. It works well for studio portraits, weddings, landscapes, and street photography. It performs well in bright daylight, as well as in overcast conditions, and low light, and it produces clean results for both large prints and high-resolution scans. Plenty of professionals keep it in their bag for exactly that reason.

*Kodak Alaris distributes Portra 400, while Eastman Kodak distributes Ektacolor Pro 400. Both are the same emulsion, manufactured by Eastman Kodak in Rochester, New York. As a film manufacturer, Eastman Kodak can sell it slightly cheaper, with all money going back to them to support production, factory upgrades, and future research.

If Portra 400 is out of stock, Ektacolor Pro 400 will give you the same results.

Do you scan half-frames?

Yes! We can scan them in pairs or one by one — whatever works best for you. Just give us the heads-up when you order.

What’s the difference between Flash and Biggie?

Think of it like this: if you’re going big — like for an exhibition or a gift — biggie’s your go-to

For everything else — flash. It’s fast, flexible and perfect for quick edits and everyday needs.

JPG or TIFF?

If you’re looking for scans that are ready to post but still flexible for adjustments, go with JPG. We’ll make sure they look great, and you can tweak them however you like.

If you’re going for a certain look, go with TIFF for flat, untouched scans ready for your editing.

I didn’t quite like the results…

Then let’s improve them! Scanning is all about your personal style, so let’s tweak it until it’s just right for you.

What if I have a blank roll of film?

Oh, it’s the worst, we feel you.

We’ll refund the scan and just charge for the development. This also applies if your film is fogged or has damaged / transparent perforation.
